Types of OCD

There are different types of obsessive-compulsive behavior. These are divided into those which belong directly to OCD and those closely related to OCD which are called spectrum disorders.

Common examples of OCD are:

  • Washing

  • Checking

  • Superstition

  • Slowness

  • Hoarding

  • Religious and non-religious scrupulosity

Common examples of OCD spectrum disorders are:

  • Trichotillomania (compulsive hair pulling)

  • Excessive skin picking or nail biting

  • Hypochondriasis (hypochondria)

  • Body Dismorphic Disorder (the feeling of physical unattractiveness)

  • Tourette's Syndrome (muscle tics and the involuntary voicing of obscenities and animal sounds)
